Basic tenets of Christianity

When someone refers to the "basic tenets of Christianity," they are talking about the core beliefs or fundamental principles of the Christian faith. These are the essential doctrines that Christians generally hold to be true. Though there are many denominations the core is common to all. (other than the  heretic sects) Here's a breakdown of what that generally entails:

The core of Christianity

Belief in One God:

    • Christians are monotheistic, meaning They believe in one God. God is often understood as existing in three persons:

  • The Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit (the Trinity).

The Deity of Jesus Christ:

  • A central tenet is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully human.
  • Christians believe that Jesus came to Earth to save humanity from sin.

The Bible as God's Word:

  • Christians consider the Bible (both the Old and New Testaments) to be the inspired and authoritative Word
     of God.
  • It is seen as the primary source of guidance and truth.

Salvation through Jesus Christ:

  • Christians believe that salvation (deliverance from sin and eternal life) is achieved through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • They believe that Jesus's death on the cross atoned for the sins of humanity.
